Not to be missed:
Waitamo Caves (DSC_3309): Entrance way to the Waitamo caves where the Maori natives encourage the visitors to wash their hands when entering and then when exiting the resting place of several Maori chiefs.
Chateau Tongariro (DSC_3506): French colonial style hotel built close to 2 active volcanoes and the departure point of numerous hiking trails in Whakapapa Village.
Hotel D’Urville (DSC_3813): In Blenheim, main city in the wine making region of Marlborough, New Zealand, Hotel d’Urville stands out because of its recent renovations and the quality of the food at its restaurant (highly recommend to eat there!!!).
Church of the Good Shepherd (DSC_4390): The small church, where Julie and I got married, is located on the shores of the magnificent Lake Tekapo in the heart of New Zealand. The imposing and majestic Southern Alps only help to magnify the purity and simplicity of the Church. This place will live in our hearts and souls for the rest our lives.
Franz Josef Village (DSC_5209): This tiny village on the west coast of New Zealand is located at the foot of the Franz Josef Glacier (one of the world’s fastest moving glaciers: 3-4 meters per day!). The village will have to be relocated in roughly 20 years as the river created by the glacier changes it flow paterns. In New Zealand, the people accept to bow to nature and live with the consequences of living with Mother Earth and her power.
Franz Josef Glacier (DSC_5236): This glacier receives on average 40 meters of snow per year (compare that to 10m of snow here in Quebec). This picture was taken by Julie riding “shotgun” in a helicopter.
